There are very effective home remedies to treat hernia discomfort, pain and support healing the condition entirely. Optimal health requires a holistic approach, and traditional plant medicines work holistically to synergistically target different areas of your body's needs. Today I want to share with you the remedies that helped me, that you can utilize for your own hernia treatment at home.
When I was suffering with my inguinal hernia it took me out of the game, literally. As an athlete and self-titled Ambassador of Play, I had to seek out unique ways to do my own hernia treatment at home as I was unable to find any help online. I needed to get back into the game, ASAP. So I consulted with friends living on the island of Kaua'i and engaged my own intuitive logic to blaze my path forward.
The 2 key homemade remedies for hernia treatment that helped me heal my hernia are Aloe Vera and Castor Oil. The great news is that these remedies are easy and also super powerful!
My 2 Key Home Remedies to Treat a Hernia
Aloe Vera
There was a ton of Aloe around where I was living and I looked into it as a home remedy. Aloe Vera is a plant that I have used for many purposes, usually externally, and observing its powerful self-healing capabilities I reasoned that it should help internally. Researching it as a hernia healer, I found out more about its remarkable anti-inflammatory properties. It contains antimicrobial anthraquinones, vitamins C, A, and E as well as Beta-carotene, Folic Acid, Calcium, Magnesium and Salicylic Acid. Known to promote rapid healing, rubbing Aloe over the compromised area as well as adding it to my diet encouraged the regenerating of tissues internally and externally.
Preparing the leaf for use internally is important to making it more palatable. The green part is extremely bitter, so it must be completely removed before consuming. Typically I would just eat up the gooey chunks, sometimes throwing it into smoothies. I eventually developed a craving for it. I never experienced any negative symptoms from consuming the aloe, however, I have heard that aloe can cause diarrhea and stomach pain if I large amount is consumed. This is likely due to the orange-ish latex in the veins which you can drain out before eating. Always trust your gut and tune into your body to find what works best for you!
Castor Oil
A friend recommended looking into Edgar Cayce and his observations on Castor Oil. Castor Oil is known as Palma Christi (Palm of Christ) and Edgar called it a miracle healer. Although I cannot dive too deeply into the claims of its abilities to heal tumors, bone spurs, arthritis, just to name a few case studies, trust me, is a truly remarkable plant. It is the deepest penetrating of the oils and appears to have a remarkable ability to know how to heal the body in the most efficient way. I researched how to do a castor oil pack, added some Myrrh for its healing properties and pain-relieving benefits, and that became a nightly ritual along with a gentle hernia massage just before going to bed. I believe it is one of the most powerful home remedies to treat hernia damage as it seemed to help restore the strength of my weakened and ruptured tissues.
Herbal Home Remedies to Treat a Hernia Holistically
As I said before, health requires a holistic approach. It's important to not only target the affected area, but to support your body's entire healing system. This is why a healthy diet is key when it comes to your hernia treatment at home. Herbs are also a potent medicinal tool to assist your body's innate healing wisdom.
When looking for the best home remedies to treat hernia issues, I consulted with my friend Doug at Kaua'i Farmacy.
Doug was an instrumental help with wisdom and suggestions for home remedies along the process. On the island, Doug is pretty famous for transforming a small area into an abundant and diverse, as he would put it, farmacy. As you can grow pretty much anything on Kaua’i, the Farmacy has taken advantage of this by producing some of the best herbs and remedies on the planet. Incredibly knowledgable about the body and what it needs to heal, Doug gave me recommendations on teas to drink, as well as encouraging me to liquefy my diet as much as possible. Turmeric was a daily staple for its anti-inflammatory properties as well as an overall digestive aid. Rich in antioxidants, it also contains vitamin C and B6.
During the healing process, I drank a tulsi & turmeric tea daily like the one below to get more liquids and potent medicinals into my body.
