Treatments + Remedies
When I was going through the healing process, I researched and tried many things. There was barely any information available on home remedies for hernia treatment on the internet, but luckily I got some ideas from friends and had my own background in energy healing and massage to draw from. With all the questions I received on my video channel I decided to put together these free resources along with my 30-Day Protocol. Here is a summary of the main things I did to heal my inguinal hernia.
Stay Positive and Trust In Yourself
This is the original hernia chronicles and vacuum breath video I did in 2015 when I was still living on Kaua’i. 9 years later it's now at 83k views.
This is a quick vacuum breath instructional video I did a couple of years later on my new channel. A new video with full step-by-step instructions on how to do the Vacuum Breath is available in my 30-Day Protocol.
EXERCISE + POSTURE
• Vacuum Breath. This is an amazing exercise in general and a key part of treating my hernia. Start slowly to build up muscle control. This one exercise can transform your core drastically. I did this exercise at least once a day, most days twice, in the morning and before my castor oil treatment with massage in the evening.
• Stand Up as much as possible. I use a stand up desk and I have a Pono Ola board that I love to stand on! Sitting down crushes your internal organs, messes up your spine by reversing your spinal curve, and atrophies many important muscles. Lie down if you need a break from standing. If you need to sit down, use pillows to get your hips above your knees to keep the curve of your spine and elongate your torso.
• Walking around is great exercise to keep things flowing, the muscles in your calves when walking help the heart pump the blood. Be very mindful of how you feel when walking, is anything pulling uncomfortably? Avoid jolting your body! Don’t over do it either, it isn’t a competition, just a way keep you active and the blood moving. Swimming is also good! Avoid exercises like crunches that jar and stress the area.
• YogAlign® is the only stretching part of yoga that I recommend. I had been studying yoga since 1996 and in 2015 Michaelle helped me to recognize that some of that training can be damaging long-term. Most instructions I have come across misalign your body and cause issues, whereas YogAlign® helps put your body and posture back into proper alignment. I went at least twice a week during my self-treatment. Check out Yogalign.com for beginner training courses. Also check out the new FitAlign® posture training courses that specifically target your proper body alignment.
<< Hanging with Michaelle Edwards and our friend chubs. This was after full recovery and diving 100% into Yogalign. I even had my mom, who is a yoga instructor, come out and do Michaelle’s teacher training course.
Home Remedies for Hernia Treatment
The Castor Plant is poisonous, however the extracted oil is very safe and medicinal. A powerful home remedy for hernia treatment!
HEALING TREATMENTS
• Hernia Massage was a nightly ritual before going to bed. I did some research on Edgar Cayce and he talked about the miracles of Castor Oil. First you will need to make a Castor Oil compress by putting a wool, flannel, or thick cloth on a plastic sheet or bag. Saturate the fabric with Castor Oil and wait for 5-10 minutes to soak in, now the compress is ready, you can use it over and over again, just add a bit of Castor Oil each time as the body will absorb some. Once you are ready, place a few drops of Myrrh Oil on the hernia, cover the area with the compress, then put a heating pad on it and crank that baby up to a comfortable level, 15 minutes of heat should do it. Then spend a few minutes very gently massaging into the area. Be aware of “good pain” and “bad pain”; focus on the former, stay away from the latter. I did this every night before bed.
Edgar Cayce, author and world-renowned psychic healer.
• Acupuncture was recommended, so I did that at least every other week. I had a very good acupuncturist, make sure you don’t have someone who is just experimenting on you!
I met Genna and Doug of Kaua’i Farmacy back in 2009, basically when i first arrived on the island. Along with having the world’s best homegrown teas and tinctures on the planet, https://shop.kauaifarmacy.com/, Doug became my health ingestion guru. Their teas became a staple during my “cleansing” time.
WHAT TO EAT?
It's time to go on a bit of a cleanse…
Some of the best home remedies for hernia treatment are growing right outside your door, or perhaps your neighbor's garden. There is simply no other way to do it naturally. Your body needs to relax and not stress out from digesting junk. This is what I did and this is what I believe.
These days my diet is not as restrictive, I listen to my body and adjust my food intake accordingly. During my cleanse, however, I was a lot more focused on optimal nutrition with minimal digestive inhibiters; no grains, no harsh meat, no processed foods, and I tried to liquify most of my meals. Lots of juicing!
Granted, living on Kaua’i, I had access to the best that is available. I have also adapted this diet for different places around the world, so just use common food sense.
My Diet:
Breakfast, I drank a tall glass of room temp water with half a lemon to start off my day. Wait about 10 minutes, then I usually would make a smoothy; no crappy protein junk powders! Throw in some fruits, veggies, coconut water, coconut milk.... (NO SOY!)
After that…
More fruits and veggies! YAY!!! Try to go organic folks, it might be just a labeling rip off, I’m praying that it isn’t. Your local farmer’s market should be your new hang out place. Cucumber, amazing… celery good… apples, mangos, pears, peaches, if you can get coconuts, go crazy! I did!!! Drink up that amazingness, eat the meat!
Aloe, if you have it around, is simply the best. Shave off the green leaf, eat a chunk of the meat or throw into a blender with the smoothie, rub the extra on the leaf on the hernia area for extra support. Aloe's deep moisturizing, anti-inflammatory and overall healing properties encourage the regenerating of tissues internally and externally. Miraculous stuff!
Fish is good to eat and chicken as well, just not too much though.
This is where a lot of people struggle, food is addictive! To optimize your body’s healing potential, however, your diet is key for success.
Herbal Teas for Holistic Support
When treating a hernia or any ailment, it's important to not only target the affected area, but to support your body's entire healing system.
Incredibly knowledgable about the body and what it needs to heal, my friend Doug at Kauai Farmacy gave me recommendations on teas to drink, as well as encouraging me to liquefy my diet as much as possible. He recommended turmeric for its anti-inflammatory properties as well as an overall digestive aid. Rich in antioxidants, it also contains vitamin C and B6. During the healing process, I drank a tulsi & turmeric tea like this one daily to get more liquids and potent medicinals into my body. Check out this Wellness Tea and more amazing teas, tinctures and more at Kauai Farmacy!
This page summarizes the key exercises and home remedies for hernia treatment I did to achieve rapid healing with my hernia.

Herbal Home Remedies for Hernia Treatment
Truth: I didn’t know about these herbal aids when I was doing my journey. I am listing them here because I know that they won’t hurt the process and may prove to be very beneficial.
Barberry
Barberry, which contains berberine, can alleviate the gastrointestinal concerns and relieve an upset stomach. It includes anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties that do not give the chance to expand the hernia infection around your abdomen areas.
Barberry will also soothe the intestinal walls and help calm down the muscles. You can prepare barberry rice and barberry salad and eat them once a day. You can also have capsules which have content of barberry herb. It is recommended to have two capsules just before each meal, 500 mg capsules daily.
Bromelain
The bromelain herb has the capacity to increase your healing potential, lessen the pain, and help shrink the swelling. It also works superb for heartburn and acid reflux. High level of bromelain are found in pineapple.
So you can have a cup of pineapple juice daily. Or fresh pineapple is, of course, mo betta. You can also eat a capsule supplement that will calm the digestive route before having meals. It is recommended to have up to 500mg per day.
Haworthia
Haworthia has the capacity to treat three types of hernias - inguinal hernias, femoral hernias and umbilical hernias.
Being available in the supplement form, you can have 500 mg capsules containing haworthia (2 capsules daily) for the progressive muscular support for the hernia. Many say that haworthia is perhaps the most powerful herb to help heal your hernia. Usually more effective early on.
Zander's Bonus Tips
JUGGLING!!!
Keeping your mind in a playful state is something I preach, and if you knew how good juggling was for you brain and mental state, you would have learned it yesterday. A positive mental state is one of the pillars of maintaining a vibrant, healthy body. Here is the best juggling course I have come across (mine;) even if you are an amazing juggler, the steps I use to teach others help the learning process be more efficient and less frustrating. Check it out and become a juggler, the world needs more playahs and smiles!
GO BAREFOOT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE!!!
I cannot stress this enough, give your toes freedom. Shoes are like a cast for our foot and severely limit movement. This in turn effects our whole muscular system as the muscles that connect to our toes go up our spin and connect to the front of our skull. Walking barefoot and even better on uneven ground activate the whole spin. Grass, sand, dirt, connect with the Earth, ground out, receive that healing energy!
With this awareness in mind, I have tried many styles of barefoot shoes. The five finger ones keep your toes spread, which is not good in general, they need to be able to squeeze together. All that being said, XeroShoes are my favorite company for barefoot wear, I have a number of pairs. Lots of styles to choose from and they have spectacular customer support!
